Universal Audio is a manufacturer of professional audio
equipment. They have a world renowned reputation for outstanding
sound
and quality. You can find UA gear in just about any studio
in the United States and across the globe. Some of the
highlights of their products are the 2192 AD/DA converter,
the Teletronix
La-2a compressor, the 1176LN limiting amplifier, and the
2-610 pre-amplifier. They also make software versions of
many of
their fine outboard analog gear.
Founded in the 1950’s by Bill Putnam Sr, UA was
a natural extension of his unparalleled success as a
recording
engineer, studio designer, and inventor. Putnam was a
favorite engineer of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray
Charles,
Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and many other music
icons of the time. In 2000, Bill Putnam Sr. was awarded
the Technical
Achievement Grammy in praise of his multiple contributions
to the recording industry including the first use of
artificial reverberation, effects sends, and the vocal
booth.
Paradise Recording’s owner and chief engineer Rich
Williams was a design engineer for Universal Audio.
He designed the 2192, as well as the new UA 8110 and
4110 pre-amplifiers. Paradise Recording has a wealth
of UA gear, and an engineer who knows more about that
gear
than
anyone.
