I sat down with the guys of “Who’s Holdin’” to ask how their experience was at Paradise Recording. They have just finished recording their new cd, which is not yet titled. Stay tuned to Paradise to find out when it hits stores. It is one of my personal favorites, so make sure you buy one for you and a friend.

DM- “Troy, tell me about recording your trumpet here at Paradise.”

Troy- “The tone was great! No, better than great, it was excellent! Rich had some really good ideas that I was able to incorporate in our songs.”

DM- “Zac, as a drummer, what was the advantage of recording with Paradise.”

Zac- “For sure the advantage was recording to 2” analog tape. 2” tape is the best! The phatest sound! It’s gigantic! Really, it’s better than anything. I couldn’t be happier with the way the drums came out.”

DM- “I love the enthusiasm. Now Rich, tell me about recording your bass.”

Rich- “The bass sounds phat. Recording to 2” tape made all the difference. Rich (the engineer) has such a comfortable and creative style. You guys are just a lot of fun to be around.”

DM- “Thanks! I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed being in the studio with you too!
Now Ian, how did your vocals come out?”

Ian- “My vocals came out great! Recording with you guys felt more like jamming than recording. It’s such a relaxed environment. I was also really pleased that Rich (the engineer) is a singer also. He was able to help me out and gave me a lot of encouragement. The whole experience was by far the best recording experience ever!”

From Cory Roxx, drummer of Shadow Remains, questions asked by Danielle Mccoy:

DM-"Cory, you are in your pre-mastering phase, how do you like your
mixes?"
CR-"They are totally bad ass! I couldn't be happier."
DM-"How was working with Rich?"
CR-"It was awesome! It is a professional, but relaxed environment."
DM-"How did your drum tones come out?"
CR-"The tones came out exactly as I wanted them. I was stoked to use the
new UA prototype."

How does Paradise excel for drummers?

"Paradise Recording offers a large, spacious recording room that gives drummers plenty of room to set up and move around. Loading and unloading instruments and gear is always easy and there is plenty of room to store everything. Paradise also has a comfortable control room with plenty of couches that you can crash on after hours of drumming. The set up, and sound checks go by smoothly, and I'm always stoked with how good Rich can make my drums sound on tape. Rich really knows his stuff, so if something isn't going quite right -- it's probably your fault."

...compared with other local studios?
"I have recorded drum tracks in almost a dozen different studios throughout California, and have worked with more than a dozen engineers. The drum tracks that I have recorded at Paradise Recording have been consistently better than the tracks recorded in other studios. Every recording session that I have done at Paradise has been a positive experience, and I have always left the studio satisfied with the final product."

How is the room for drums?
"The main recording room is ideal for recording drums. It is a large, spacious room with a nice hardwood floor. The room's natural sound gives the drums a warm tone, and makes them sound real, full, and big. The entire atmosphere is very comfortable, and "drummer friendly."

How is working with Rich?
"Every time I work with Rich at Paradise, I am confident that I will leave satisfied with the sounds that we record. Rich knows what kinds of tones I want to hear out of my drums, and he has always succeeded in helping me produce the specific sounds that I want to hear. I find that I am able to relax more and enjoy my time in the studio knowing that I can trust Rich with the music that I'm trying to make. He's a very easy going engineer, which helps to create a stress-FREE environment for everyone involved. But don't let his mellow mood fool you, Rich knows what he is doing and he has the education and the experience to prove it!"
